Cork Lamp - Shortlisted for the LICHTCYCLE COMPETITION
LightCycle is a design competition forming part of the 2009 State of Design Festival Entrants were issued with a 1m strip of LED lighting and asked to use their creativity to make a light fixture which embodies the principles of environmental sustainability.

‘Little Cork Men from Outer Space’

This floor lamp is an ambient lighting fixture designed to give life to un-used corners in any room. The design plays with the effect of light and shadows and the unique shape is influenced by the ‘peeling’ layers of cork bark; the cork is harvested from each tree time after time making it a sustainable renewable resource.
The product is made using standard cork floor tiles and is lightly finished with a non-toxic oil to prevent harmful off-gassing that causes Sick Building Syndrome. It comes flat packed and ready to assemble using no fixings or adhesives allowing for parts to be replaced individually if damaged, rather than the entire product.
